Players

FLAT CARD PLAYER Available from 1947, the first in a long line of Subbuteo figures.
FLAT CARD TEAM SQUAD In the 1950's this is how a team would look. You would simply press out the figure and slot into a base. The bases were available separately in various colours to match the team. This is an original team that never left Waddingtons until 1998.
FLAT CELLULOID PLAYER This chap replaced the card player and was more hardwearing. The celluloid player was available well into the 60's. NEWFOOTY PLAYER FROM THE 1950's Newfooty was around from 1929 to 1963 and had more than just a resemblance to Subbuteo. Whether Peter Adolph got the idea for Subbuteo from Newfooty, I'll let you decide.
ORIGINAL HEAVYWEIGHT PLAYER The first of the 'OO' scale figures. They were available in 1961 for a very short time and they had 'V' neck shirts and short sleeves. "WALKER" PLAYER This figure was only available in box sets of the 60's and was only done in a hand full of strips. The most common being Red/White & Blue/White.
MOULDED BASE (WINGED SHORTS) Again this figure was only found in box sets from the late 60's into the 70's. He too was only done in a few strips. MOULDED BASE This figure only seemed to turn up in box sets. It was common to have one box set with the 2 variations of moulded player inside.
BANDYLEG (SCARECROW PLAYER) This player also turned up in box sets and Football Express Team Boxes. It's possible the 2 variations of moulded base player could also be found in the Football Express Boxes. HEAVYWEIGHT PLAYER Arguably the best of the bunch and the most sought after. Available from the 60's to around 1980.
ZOMBIE PLAYER Arguably the worst of the bunch. Whatever were they thinking of when they made this little chap. Having said that some of the hand painted Zombies do look quite good. Available from 1978 to around 1981. LIGHTWEIGHT PLAYER Available from around 1981 to the end of production in 1999.
LIGHTWEIGHT PLAYER ( SPONSORS NAME ) Same as the previous figure but with added detail. Available from the mid 90's. ORIGINAL RUGBY PLAYER Available from 1969 right through the 70's.
