Team Boxes
1961 TEAM BOX This box was only available for about a year or so when the first 3-D player was produced. They were done in white and are very rare. |
EARLY 60's TEAM BOX This is the first of the green boxes. There are 2 variations of this box. The first type was not stapled together, was of a lighter green and the white rim around the box lid was a little narrower. All in all I think this box was of a better quality. |
MID 60's TEAM BOX This box was very similar to the earlier version, but had a wider white rim, was of a darker green and the lid was stapled together. |
LATE 60's BOX As you can see there was now a clear difference between this and the earlier boxes. We were also seeing a transformation in player from the "Original Heavyweight" with short sleeves and 'V' neck, to the "Classic Heavyweight". |
LATE 60's EARLY 70's TEAM BOX. There was only a very subtle difference between this and the late 60's box. First the player on the box had lost some weight, and he was also kicking the ball from left to right. |
Early 70's TEAM BOX These boxes don't turn up too often and I think were only made for a short time. They are lime green in colour, the sides of the lid are white instead of green and they had a thin black border. |
MID TO LATE 70's TEAM BOX. The player graphics on the front of the box had changed again. This is the most common of the pre 80's boxes. These boxes didn't seem as sturdy as the earlier versions. |
LARGE ENGLAND TEAM BOX C138 Available around the mid 70's the lay out and size was the same as all previous box types. But the lid was designed specifically for the England team. This box was also used to house the England 2nd team as show here. The only difference to the box was a small sticker at each end of the box saying "2nd". |
SMALLER LATE 70's TEAM BOX This box was virtually identical to the mid 70's box but smaller in size. The inner tray had now changed from card to plastic. |
HOME INTERNATIONAL TEAM BOX C500 This was the smaller late 70's style box with the plastic inner tray. There were 4 different boxes available done in the colours of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. |
EARLY 80's TEAM BOX There was now a big transformation in the type of team boxes Waddingtons were using. The classic lift off lid box had gone and we now had a slide out tray plastic tray with a small window to view the player. |
EARLY TO MID 80's TEAM BOX With this box you could now view all 11 players, and the inner tray was made of polystyrene. This was probably the best of the post 80's boxes. |
WORLD CUP 82 SQUAD BOX This box was virtually identical to previous one, except instead of it saying "Team" on the front the box said "World Cup 82. There was also a variation on the back. of the packaging. |
MID 80's TEAM BOX This was the same as the previous box but rotated 90 degrees. |
MID 80's WORLD CUP SQUAD BOX. This pack was commissioned to celebrate the 1986 World Cup. They contained 14 players plus 2 keepers and a set of number transfers. |
LATE 80's EARLY 90's TEAM BOX The packaging was now becoming more compacted and had a smaller window to view the players. |
LATE 80's EARLY 90's SUPER TEAM BOX There was nothing special about the team, just the usual 11 standard men. The packaging was a video cassette box moulded inside like the polystyrene trays to hold a team. The box also had the name of the team on it. I think there were 25 teams to collect. |
EARLY TO MID 90's TEAM BOX Very similar to the previous packaging but we now have the FA Premier League symbol on the front of the box. |
MID TO LATE 90's TEAM BOX We now saw a 2 windowed box and inside the players and bases were to be self assembled. You also got 11 outfield players and a keeper in each box. |
LATE 90's TEAM BOX This and the previous box were available at the same time up to the end of 1999, this one showing the Premier League symbol and the the other didn't. |
TRACK SUITED TEAM BOX 1960's STYLE Done in the style of the first team boxes, the inner tray was a normal team tray except an 11th track suited player went where the keeper would go. |
TRACK SUITED TEAM BOX 1970's STYLE Same as the 1st version but with a 70's look. |
FOOTBALL EXPRESS TEAM BOX These small boxes contained 5 outfield players, 2 keepers ( in different positions ) and a keeper rod. |
RENAULT TEAM BOX This is a very bizarre box, and I know very little about it. If someone could shed some light on it's background that would be great. I am guessing that it's some sort of promotional item. There is no bar code and the words Subbuteo only appear on the back in small writing. The inner tray is stamped "Renault Trucks" and the Renault logo. The team inside is no.57 A.C. Milan. |
MID 70s ITALIAN TEAM BOX The same size as the larger mid 70's box, but these special coloured and named team boxes were only available in Itay. |
1980s ITALIAN TEAM BOX Same design lid as the earlier 70's Italian boxes but these were the smaller type box with the plasic inner tray. Again these were only available in Italy. |
50s TEAM HOLDER BOX These boxes were available from the 1949/50 season and originally were available in either red, blue, white, black, tangerine and green. They were designed to hold either the card or celluloid teams. You would buy a set of players in your favourite colours and then buy the box of the same colour to hold them in. There was also a lable on the front of the box to put your name and the name of the club. By the 60's the colours available were red, royal blue, light blue, black, white, gold, green, tangerine, maroon and yellow. They were last available in the 1970/71 season. |
RUGBY TEAM BOX This box was the same size as the 60's / 70's football team box with a card inner and slots for 15 Rugby players. |
CRICKET TEAM BOX This box was available in 2 styles. Either as a slide out card tray or with a lift off lid. There were 5 teams available : Standard Red Caps, Standard Blue Caps, England, Australia and West Indies. |
